THE (Almost) Original Philly Cheese Steak

Ingredients 

  • 2 hoagie (in the US) or Sub (in Canada) Buns
  • 1 whole onion peeled and sliced
  • 8 slices rare roast beef (deli style)
  • 6 slices white American cheese
  • 1 medium tomato sliced
  • 10-12 rings pickled peppers mild or hot
  • 1 tspn olive oil

Instructions

  • Gather all ingredients before starting recipe
  • Peel and slice onion
  • Heat oil in a medium skillet over medium high heat and add sliced onion, sauté until the onion starts to caramelize, about 4-5 minutes
  • Slice tomato and place a few slices on each hoagie bun, add pickled pepper slices if using.
  • Move onions to one side of skillet and add two rows of 4 slices of roast beef each in the space remaining, sauté for 1-2 minutes.
  • Fold cheese slices in half and top each section of roast beef, sauté another minute or until the cheese melts.

Make Sandwich

  • Place sauteéd onions on bottom, top with beef and cheese, sliced peppers, and add ketchup if you like.
