These Kansas City Style ribs are meaty and tender, and the dry rub and BBQ sauce add a ton of flavor. I served this with Bush’s homestyle baked beans, but it would also be delicious with your favorite side dish.

Tip : You will have some of the dry rub left over, but you can store it in a jar with a lid. It will keep as long as any of the spices that you used to mix the dry rub.

Ingredients 

  • 2 lbs Kansas City style ribs
  • kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Dry Rub

  • 1 tbsp Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp smoked paprika

Instructions

Gather all ingredients before starting the recipe.

  • Line a flat sheet with non-stick aluminum foil.
  • Transfer ribs to the prepared flat sheet and liberally season ribs kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides.
  • Mix together 1 tbsp Hungarian paprika, 1 tbsp ground cumin, 1 tbsp ground black pepper, 1 tbsp chili powder and 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper in a small bowl and then liberally coat both sides of the ribs. Allow seasoned ribs to rest for 1-2 hours before cooking.
  • Preheat oven to 350℉
  • Add enough water to just barely cover the bottom of the lined flat sheet and then cover the ribs with aluminum foil, tucking in at the rim of the pan, to form a seal around the ribs.
  • Set you timer for 3 hours and place ribs in a preheated oven. Check the ribs a couple of times during cooking to make sure that the pan has not run dry and to turn the ribs halfway through.

Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce

  • Combine 1 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup plus 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar , 2 tbsp maple syrup, 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 tbsp smoked paprika in a small sauce pan. Mix to combine, then set on low heat and allow to gently simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • Raise oven temperature to 400℉
  • When the ribs are soft and ready to pull off the bone, remove from the oven, remove the aluminum foil and baste the ribs with the BBQ sauce.
  • Place BBQ sauce coated ribs in the oven and cook for another 20 minutes. or until lightly charred.
  • Serve with your favorite side dish.
