This Heavenly Sauce an amazingly delicious sauce! It originates from a recipe called Daddy Wu’s Chinese Chicken, but I have used it with sautéed chicken, shrimp and even with pork. It has a remarkable flavor and is so easy to make.

Tip : A great vegetarian sauce to go with white rice or steamed veggies. Also tasty with shrimp or chicken and pork.

Ingredients 

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or just enough to thinly coat the bottom of a small skillet
  • 1/2 onion red or sweet peeled and thinly sliced
  • 10-12 baby plum or cherry tomatoes cut in half
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp hoisin or oyster sauce (Asian section of grocery store)
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 large lemon zest and juice

Instructions

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat fo 1-2 minutes,
  • Add 1/2 onion red or sweet thinly sliced to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the onion starts to soften.
  • Add 10-12 baby plum or cherry tomatoes cut in half, stir to combine and cook for 2-3 minutes longer,
  • Add 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup chicken stock , 2 tbsp brown sugar, 2 tbsp hoisin or oyster sauce (Asian section of grocery store), 1 tsp grated ginger and lemon zest and juice from 1 large lemon. Stir to combine well. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
