Life is beginning to return to normal, at least for Americans and we are in America. And whether I am imagining it or it is real, our conversations also seemed to have returned to normal. Good things to come, I believe normal is close.

Even planning this dinner party seemed normal. The menu works well and is harmonious, never mind delicious. Cooking for the two of us over the last couple of months has paid off as I could incorporate tried and true recipes with new recipes that caught my eye.

Here’s this menu;

Hors d’Oeuvres

Mussels Escabeche

Smoked Fish Dip

Appetizer

Zakarian’s Poached Leeks with a Twist

Main

Lemon-Garlic Marinated Grilled Veal Chop

Garlic Lemon Couscous

Dessert

Cherries ‘n Whipped Cream Ice Cream

Our friends arrived with this lovely bouquet of roses and the ever appropriate bottle of red wine.

We had our hors d’oeuvres on the terrace with an ice cold bottle of Champaign and a lot of talk and catching up. Then indoors for the poached leek appetizer, while we started the veal chops on the grill. The timing was good as the chops were ready at about the same time that we finished our appetizer.

We finished with the easiest and tastiest dessert that I have made in a long time. This dessert also caused me to fall in love with condensed milk! I always thought that it would be terrible, but truth be told, you can eat this deliciousness right out the can with a spoon.

All is getting better!
