Grenadier Marsh my most popular recipe in the world! Week after week, this recipe appears as one of the top three viewed on all my social media sites. Grenadir Mars (pronounced Grenadier Marsh) means the “march of the grenadiers” and is a recipe from my childhood. It is really simple; bacon, potatoes, onions or shallots, and pasta.
Ingredients
- 1 medium baking potato peeled and cut into 1/2" cubes
- 3 nests tagliatelle
- 1-2 large shallots peeled and finely sliced or 1/2 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 lb smoked bacon cut into lardons (or thickly sliced bacon cut into 1/2" pieces)
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients before starting recipe.
- Peel and dice 1 medium baking potato , cover with water in a medium sauce pan and bring to a boil. Cook for 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender, drain and reserve.
- Dice 1/2 lb smoked bacon into lardons or into 1/2" dice and add to a medium frying pan over medium heat. Cook until the bacon starts to get a golden color, about 5-6 minutes.
- Peel and slice 1-2 large shallots and add to the bacon and fry until the bacon, shallots/onion is lightly browned.
- Cook 3 nests tagliatelle according to package directions, and drain. Add boiled potatoes and pasta to bacon, onion/shallot mixture and toss to combine well.
Oh yes!!!! Brings back memories of our childhood. A delicious staple from the Austro-Hungarian kitchen. I like to add a bit of Hungarian paprika to the onions…..for a bit more flavour and colour.
Looks good, must make this too.
Love this dish. I also put some ground black pepper as well.
