Praline is easy to make and it is excellent for decorating cakes or to use as a garnish for desserts. The praline can be prepared with walnuts, pecans, or my favorite, hazelnuts.

Ingredients 

  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/3 cup roughly chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium high heat, stir until the sugar starts to turn a golden brown, about 3 minutes, add pecans and stir to combine.
  • Pour mixture onto a non-stick sheet of aluminum foil, spread in an even layer and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • When completely cooled, break into rough pieces and place inside a plastic bag and crush into smaller pieces.
  • Sprinkle crushed praline over the frosted cake.
