How magical, ‘It was the night before Christmas, as the story goes, and we get to that favorite stanza….”while visions of Sugar Plums danced in their heads…” Did you ever wonder what sugar plums were? I have for years and years and always thought it was something magical. I hope that I don’t ruin it for you, Santa Clause still exists, but sugar plums are plums which have been sugared. A wonderful dried fruit stuffed with all kinds of other dried fruit and nuts, and a bit of brandy. The perfect Christmas Bite!

Ingredients 

  • 12-16 whole dried prunes
  • 2 tbsp dried candied orange rind
  • 2 tbsp dried candied lemon rind
  • 3-4 tbsp raisins
  • 2-3 tbsp walnuts pecans or pistachios
  • 4-6 whole apricots
  • 4-5 slices candied ginger
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 2-3 tbsp fancy coarse sparkling sugar

Instructions

  • Gather all ingredients before starting the recipe.
  • Add all ingredients to a food processor and chop/blend until you have a fine meal, not paste and not coarse.
  • Press the center of a pitted prune to make a well.
  • Fill each prune with the nut/fruit mixture.
  • Roll each sugar plum in course sugar and reserve covered until ready to serve.
